Mid America Filmmakers is hosting a staged reading of short scripts followed by a screening of locally produced short films at Indiana University South Bend, Wiekamp Hall, room 1001 at 7:00 p.m. on March 10.

The audience will get to hear several short scripts created by the M.A.F. screenwriters group, and then choose which one will be made into a film and screened at next year’s event. Last year’s winner was “Tooth Fairy Mishap” by David Boyer.

Ten short films will be exhibited: five by M.A.F. members, and five by local student filmmakers, including several from this year’s Notre Dame Student Film Festival.

The films are: “Yummy!”, “Rescued”, “Kittens”, “Hunters in the House”, “Tea, My Dear?”, “Pinocchio’s Drone”, “Spilt Milk”, “Sam”, “Bride of Frankie” and “Tooth Fairy Mishap.” Some films may contain mature language and themes.

The multi-award-winning short film “Bride of Frankie” is a recent release by M.A.F. member Devi Snively and has been accepted into over 100 film festivals worldwide. The film’s description states: “In this feminist nod to Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’, a not-so-mad scientist builds a mate for her mentor’s lonely creature with electrifying, and deadly, results.”

M.A.F. is a 501c3 organization with a mission to bring the art of film to “Mid America” (Indiana and bordering states) by expanding awareness of and interest in the social and cultural impact of independent filmmaking. This is achieved by providing educational and creative assistance to residents of Mid America who recognize non-commercial film as an important art form through which ideas are expressed.

Admission is $5 at the door. This event is open to the public.
