MAF July 1 Meeting – Guest speaker on “Military Technical Advising for Film”

MAF meetings are the 1st Tuesday of each month (Except for August 2014, it will be the 2nd Tuesday on  the 12th) at WNIT TV studios at 300 West Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana 46601 at 7:00 pm.

Tonight’s topic: “Military Technical Advising for Film” Steve Barnett’s presentation will cover uniforms, drill, conduct, badges and rank insignias, jargon and anything else people are interested in regarding accuracy for creating films with military elements.

Steven Barnett is a 23 year retired United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant with combat experience in Viet Nam / Beirut, Lebanon / Grenada and Panama. He served as “Sargent of the Guard” in a Terrorist Environment while stationed in Puerto Rico and Balikashir, Turkey. He provided intensive desert combat training in MCCTC 29 Palms, California for Marines preparing for duty in Iran. Steven Barnett also served as the Logistics Chief in the Command Element of the Seventh Fleet and circled the globe no less than seven times in his career. He served as a Presidential Guard for President Nixon and guarded the gates at Arlington National Cemetery. One of Steven’s final duties prior to retirement was to serve as Sargent Major for the attached Marines at the joint command, The United States Transportation Command, which controlled all air and sea movement throughout the world directing the movement of combat equipment to countries and bases where needed. For his duty he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the second highest peacetime medal under the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Upon Retirement Steven was already a member of the Screen Actors Guild for his work as an actor and Military Technical Advisor on the Film “For The Boys”. He later created “The FORCE” a team of men and women to serve as Extras in Film and Television where military correctness was essential. Some of those films were; The Enemy Within, A Few Good Men, The Puppet Masters. Television; Family Matters, Tour of Duty, Babylon 5, and many more.
