MAF Presents: “Creating a Web Series”

The internet has opened up a whole new medium of distribution that allows just about anyone with an idea and a video camera to put content on the web.  The problem is that there is so much content out there that it’s hard to find the quality stuff.  Film producers Scott Goble and Shane Roby will discuss their experiences creating the web series BadTV from production to marketing and distribution…the good and the bad.

Scott Goble bio – Proving once again there is more than corn in Indiana, Scott developed the concept of Bad TV and is its co-creator.
He also produces, co-directs and plays the role of Bruce for the show.  In the past Scott has lead a church drama team where he wrote, directed and acted in a number of live skits and video shorts. He is currently a member of Mid America Filmmakers where he holds the position of Screening Committee Chair.  To pay for his “film hobby” he works as a physical therapist specializing in the treatment of sports medicine injuries.

Shane Roby bio - A self-proclaimed native of Denver, Colorado, Shane  started his career of entertaining people doing summer theatre productions for Theatre West Virginia.  After studying theatre with an emphasis on directing in college, Shane returned to Colorado to begin work in television and video production.  Over the course of 15 years he has traveled the globe to shoot TV shows, documentaries and commercials.  A course correction to join the staff at River Valley Community Church allowed Shane the opportunity to branch out into short form dramatic videos.  Those four years cemented his desire to tell compelling stories through his camera lens full time.  To that end, Shane’s latest project was to co-create, co-direct, film and edit a full season web series called BadTV which is currently making its way through the Independent Television Festival circuit.

As usual, our regular MAF begins at 7:00 p.m., followed at 7:30 p.m. by June’s Making Movie Magic presentation on marking movie your movie script.

MAF Presents: “Marketing Your Script: The One Minute Pitch”

Rose Waldschmidt will be presenting “Marketing Your Script: The One Minute Pitch”. Topics covered will include where to research production companies, different ways to construct a logline, and a template for creating the one minute pitch. For those would would like to test a logline or a pitch, please make sure it is no longer than one minute.

A University of Notre Dame graduate, Rose Waldschmidt is an actor and screenwriter. Some of her feature credits include Harvey Putter, Women’s Prison, and Trippin. She was a Scriptapalooza semi-finalist and in 2008, had a play accepted to the Indiana Theatre Association’s IT Works conference.

She serves as Treasurer and Chair of the Screenwriter’s group for Mid America Filmmakers. She formerly served as a board member for the IN Arts Grant Review for the Community Foundation of St. Joe Co. and Sponsor Chair for the River Bend Film Fest.

MAF is seeking local and regional short films for our next screening  at Merriman’s Playhouse on September 16 at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door.  It is free to submit a film, simply fill out and mail in the entry form below with your DVD copy of the film.

Looking for shorts 30 minutes and under in all genres. Preference is give to MAF and local films, but regional are welcome (usually plenty of time during the event to show many films). The MAF screening committee will view and select the films.

New deadline is JULY 1.  Original deadline was June 1.

On Tuesday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. Film and theatre actor Rodney Sciba will talk about acting in L.A., including how to prepare for the move, getting agents, networking, acting studios, commercials, extra work, typecasting and more. He is also doing two workshops at the River Bend Film Festival on April 2 in South Bend. More at www.riverbendfilmfest.org

Rodney graduated with a B.A. in Theatre from Indiana University South Bend in 1998 after appearing in 17 theatrical productions and a number of local independent films. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles where he trained in camera techniques, commercials , scene study, comedy, improv and Meisner techniques. He has appeared in The X-Files, Fast & Furious, and the indie films The Vault, The Eliminator, and Harvey Putter and the Ridiculous Premise. He also writes, acts and directs theatre productions in L.A.

This free and open to the public presentation will take place at 7:30 p.m. immediately following our regular monthly Mid America Filmmakers meeting which begins at 7:00 p.m. You are welcome to join us for both.
