Mid America Filmmakers recently was awarded a generous matching grant through the Indiana Arts Commission on behalf of the 2012 River Bend Film Festival.

The festival has been sponsored by MAF for three years and is the premiere film festival of Northern Indiana, bringing in local, regional, national and international films of all genres. Each year over 50 films are screened, as well as a variety of film related workshops presented by independent filmmakers and industry professionals. Past speakers have included Stephen Susco (The Grudge), Lloyd Kaufman (The Toxic Avenger), Jack Olesker (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Rodney Sciba (Fast and Furious) and the film production company Glass City Films.

MAF looks forward to working with the festival again this year. Congrats to everyone on the achievement of this grant.

The next meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. followed by this month’s Making Movie Magic Presentation.

Mid America Filmmakers presents “Creative Costuming for Indie Films”
Tuesday, August 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Free event
Cellar Door restaurant below Downtown Ramada Plaza 213 W. Washington Street South Bend, IN 46601

Making a period piece? How about a fantasy or sci-fi movie? Or maybe you need police uniforms or soldiers in your film? Like all indie filmmakers, you are working on a very tight budget and need to be creative, without sacrificing the quality of your movie.

Filmmaker and Art Director Tim Richardson and Make-up FX Artist Andy Swisher use their experience from working on a myriad of styles of films to show you how to accomplish the costumes you desire.  They will discuss the costume design process, acquiring costumes locally and online, and how to plan your costuming for special effects and crowd scenes.

This free and open to the public presentation will take place immediately following our regular monthly Mid America Filmmakers meeting which begins at 7:00 p.m. You are welcome to join us for both.

This is part of a monthly series of “Making Movie Magic” workshops. Please visit our website at www.midamericafilmmakers.org for updates and additional workshop listings.
