movie magic ad market webFilmmaker Tim Richardson shares his experience with creating and marketing his independent films over the past 20 years, with little to no money. He discusses creating promotional materials, internet marketing, and other creative techniques. Tim has produced over 30 films and is currently completing his feature “Harvey Putter and the Ridiculous Premise” which premieres in Orlando in July.

This free and open to the public presentation will take place immediately at 7:30 p.m. following our regular monthly Mid America Filmmakers meeting at the Cellar Door restaurant, which begins at 7:00 p.m. You are welcome to join us for both.

rbff 2010 poster v6 final webThe Second Annual River Bend Film Festival will be held Friday, April 30 & Saturday, May 1 at the Century Center, and is sponsored by Mid America Filmmakers and Downtown South Bend. A free kickoff screening will take place Thursday, April 29 at Indiana University South Bend with space provided by the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts.

Over 70 films in a wide variety of genres, cultures and topics from students to industry professionals will be shown throughout the festival weekend. Most of the films are grouped into thematic blocks such as experimental, horror, family friendly, documentary, Asian, Local, and gay and lesbian. There will also be workshops on filmmaking, lighting, and makeup effects on Saturday afternoon.

LloydKaufmanThe free Thursday night screening is 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. in Room 1001 in Wiekamp Hall at Indiana University South Bend. The first half of the evening will include a selection of short films, including the award-winning “The Vaudevillian”, about a ventriloquist’s strained relationship with his dummy after their act is cancelled.  After an intermission, the festival’s keynote speaker, director Lloyd Kaufman, will introduce his cult classic comedy/horror film “The Toxic Avenger”, followed by a Q & A.

movie magic title acting 2010 webTuesday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Cellar Door Restaurant, Ramada (formerly Holiday) Inn Downtown at 213 W. Washington Street. Free parking in the 4th & 5th floor of the attached parking garage.

Ed Ernstes, MAF Actors Chair, has acted in a number of regional independent films, and was an extra “Dark Night” and “Public Enemies.” He will discuss the differences between theatre and film, what to expect at auditions, and the life of an actor on a movie set. He will show excerpts from several Midwest films and film director Tim Richardson will share his perspective on actors.

This free and open to the public presentation will take place at 7:30 p.m. immediately following our regular monthly Mid America Filmmakers meeting which begins at 7:00 p.m. You are welcome to join us for both.
